Defense Minister Meets With Chinese Ambassador to Republic of Moldova

CHISINAU, February 20, 2012 — Bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Chinese armies is very fruitful proved by the implementation of a large number of mutually profitable projects between the two military institutions, Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta stated today during a meeting with the new Ambassador of China to our country, Tong Mingtao.

According to Vitalie Marinuta, the Ministry of Defense is open to enhancing cooperation with the Chinese colleagues in other areas of mutual interest too. “There is no impediment for us to enhance bilateral cooperation in other areas, except the military one”, Marinuta stated. During the meeting, the Defense Minister thanked the Chinese Government for the support provided to the military institution of the Republic of Moldova both in term of army reform projects and the training process of national military staff in Chinese institutions of higher military education.

Ambassador Tong Mingtao claimed the Chinese party is open to any cooperation between the two militaries. “The cooperation between the Chinese and Moldovan armies is a key goal in the bilateral affairs development process. Thus, I think we should focus on their development and promotion”, Ambassador Tong Mingtao said.

Moldovan Chinese military cooperation is based on the Agreement signed June 23, 2002, in Beijing. So far, the Chinese Republic provided the National Army a non-reimbursable aid of over 45 million MDL.
