Medals Awarded Post - Mortem in Causeni



CHISINAU, February 28, 2012 — The National Army bows to the patriots who proved bravery and courage in hard times for the Republic of Moldova, Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta, stated during a meeting with the independence war participants and widows of men dead in war. The event was held Tuesday, February 28, in Causeni district.

On the eve of the Memory Day officially marked on March 2, the Defense Minister awarded 40 commemorative medals post-mortem to widows who lost their husbands in the war for independent of the Republic of Moldova. The Defense Minister also decorated seven war participants with the Serve de Fatherland medal and the Insignia of Gratitude.

Vitalie Marinuta pointed out the medals were a sign of gratitude towards all the soldiers who risked their lives in war and those who never came back.

“The commemoration of the war heroes is a sign of gratitude towards widows who lost their husbands, as well as participants who survived the armed conflict. I assure you the Ministry of Defense will keep honoring the heroes and supporting the war veterans and widows of fallen men”, Vitalie Marinuta said.

During the events marking the Memory Day in Causeni, two commemorative plaques were inaugurated: Alexei Cioban’s commemorative plaque installed inside Dimitrie Cantemir High School, and the Heroes of Independence plaque from the Causeni Mayoralty building. Both plaques commemorate 10 participants deceased in the 1991-1992 war. After the ceremony dedicated to the above events, the Defense Minister and the local public administration members kept a moment of silence for the heroes dead in war and attended a meal of remembrance.

Nearly 29 thousand people took part in the 1992 Dniester War. 286 of them died and 284 are now 1st, 2nd and 3rd group invalids. The National Army currently has 64 Independence War veterans.

On March 2, Moldovan people will mark the 20th anniversary of the Dniester War. March 2 was proclaimed the Memory Day by the Legislative Power of the country in 2011.
