National Army Soldiers Join “Hai, Moldova!” Campaign

CHISINAU, May 12, 2012 — About 1500 National Army servicemen took part in the national clean-up campaign as part of “Hai, Moldova!” (Go, Moldova!) event, held Saturday, May 12, in the Republic of Moldova.

On Saturday morning, Defense Minister Vitalie Marinuta with his family and a group of Stefan cel Mare Light Brigade soldiers from Chisinau cleaned the territory of Valea Morilor Park.

“The National Army has always supported Hai, Moldova! National Clean-up Campaign as part of the society willing to have a clean environment. We want to clean the place we live in, in order to be a good example for our followers”, Vitalie Marinuta stated during the event.

According to LTC Mariana Grama, Chief of Ecology and Environment Protection Department of the National Army Logistics Command, “Hai, Moldova!” National Clean-up Campaign is part of World Clean — up 2012 Global Movement. By cleaning the environment, the National Army supports the local public authorities in common with Medium Public Association.

“The National Army soldiers cleaned public gardens, parks and streets. They gathered garbage from 28 localities of the country. Medium Association gave the soldiers protective clothes and the local public authorities offered us bags, tools and means of transport to evacuate the garbage”, Mariana Grama specified.

According to the quoted source, “Hai, Moldova!” National Clean-up Campaign aims at raising people’s awareness about maintaining a clean environment in their country.

The National Army joined the national cleanup campaign on March 24 as part of the 2012 bi-monthly environmental education campaign. Over 1400 military men gathered over 250 tons of garbage.

In 2011, during a similar event, over 1500 servicemen gathered 82 tons of garbage.
