Army Topographic Center Marks 20th Anniversary



CHISINAU, May 25, 2012 — The National Army Topographic Center marked Friday, May 25, its 20th anniversary.

Throughout 20 years of activity, the institution has become famous for a serious of topogeodesic and cartographic operations that ensured the development of the National Army. The personnel of the center has actively implemented the MGCP international program, has created the national networks of WGS84 coordinate system. They have also made an inventory of the National Army land, the topographic raise of Marculesti Airport to be included in the WGS84 coordinate system.

Along with the modernization of the topogeodesic, cartographic and printing technical equipment, the Center started providing the Republic of Moldova airports (Chisinau, Balti, Cahul) with all the necessary geodesic data. The specialists of the center also developed and edited the plan of Bulboaca Military Training Site geodesic network map. The topographic center carried out different operations and has been always appreciated for significant efforts in consolidating the defense system of the country, for achievements in combat and special readiness, as well as good discipline.

The Military Topographic Center was established in 2005 based on the topogeodesic detachment and, then, the military topogeodesic and cartographic unit. The mission of the center is to contribute high quality topographic-geodesic data to the National Army development and supply.

The topographic service and the Military Topographic Center were established due to the efforts of such National Army personalities as: Reserve Col. Ion Popov, LTC Nicolae Svet, Col. Doctor Vasile Chiriac, LTC A. Cebanu and others.
