Inspectors Visit National Army Units

CHISINAU, June 13, 2012 — A group of inspectors of the German Armed Forces Verification Center holds June 12-15 trainings in the National Army in compliance with the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE).

“The goal of this visit focuses on training National Army personnel on conditions of implementation of international arms control conventions and treaties, ratified by the Republic of Moldova”, Maj. Ion Pruteanu, specialist of the Strategic Planning Division of the National Army Main Staff, stated.

The visit consists of some theoretical classes on ways of holding inspections in compliance with the CFE Treaty, with a focus on the inspection of conventional technical equipment and weapons. Inspectors will also check the conventional armament in Stefan cel Mare Light Brigade.

The CFE Treaty adopted November 1990 in Paris establishes comprehensive limits on five categories of conventional military equipment (tanks, armored vehicles, artillery pieces, combat aircrafts, attack helicopters) and provides detailed information exchanges, as well as on-site inspections of the military units of the participatory states.

The treaty caused large-scale decrease of conventional equipment and weapons all over Europe.

Republic of Moldova ratified the CFE Treaty in July 1992. Beginning 2008, the German Federal Armed Forces Verification Center has been holding per one yearly training inspection visit and verification inspection of the National army units.
