Brigadier General Vitalie Stoian – Commander of the National Army


CHISINAU, June 13, 2012 — Republic of Moldova Government approved today, June 13, a presidential decree assigning Brigadier Gen. Vitalie Stoian head of the National Army Main Staff, Commander of the National Army.

“You possess all the required skills for this position. You are an outstanding serviceman. Share this experience with your subordinates”, Prime Minister Vlad Filat stated during the Government meeting.

Brigadier Gen. Vitalie Stoian was born June 10, 1970, in Chisinau. His military career started in 1992 as an Engineer (EOD) Platoon Commander. Throughout this period of time, the general took up different positions of commander and main staff leader.

Vitalie Stoian graduated from the Higher Military Command School of Engineers, Kamenets-Podolsk, Ukraine. The general also studied at the National Defense University, Command and Staff Faculty, and National Defense College, Bucharest, as well as at the Military Institute of Foreign Languages in Hurt, Germany.

Brigadier Gen. Stoian was the commander of two EOD contingents deployed to the post-conflict operation in Iraq and took part in a large number of mine disposal operations on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

The position of Commander of the National Army remained vacant in September 2011. Meantime, Vitalie Stoian was assigned interim head of the Army.

Vitalie Stoian is married and has two children. “Fidelity to the Homeland” 3rd class is the most important order gained by Brigadier General Vitalie Stoian in his successful career.
