British Expertise for the National Army



CHISINAU, August 8, 2012 — A group of United Kingdom experts came for a visit to the Republic of Moldova during August 6-9 to provide expertise support in the security and defense reform area.

The experts intend to examine the improvement of the National Army activity as part of the IPAP goals, as well as the implementation of the military reform provisions.

At the Ministry of Defense, the team of security and justice experts headed by David Clarke had a few meetings with the staff in charge of the National Army activity improvement making the latter some recommendations on the implementation of the Final Document of the Strategic Defense Review, recently examined and approved by the Supreme Security Council.

Col. Kenneth Strain (Ret.) of Monterey (USA) Center for Civil-Military Relations (CCMR) offered the audience some suggestions regarding the improvement of the reform process given the austere budget conditions.

The agenda of the international experts’ visit also provided some meetings with representatives of the Supreme Security Council, Ministry of Interior, Security Intelligence Service and other institutions in charge of the security area.

The UK security and law experts promised to keep supporting Republic of Moldova with advice and expertise in the security reform development sector.
