Rugby – New Sports Genre for Military Students

Chisinau, September 14, 2012 — The students of Alexandru cel Bun Military Academy of the Armed Forces will participate for the first time at the International Rugby Tournament held in 2013 in Romania.

The decision was taken during the meeting of the commander of the institution, Col. Mihail Buclis, with John Broadfoot, Director of SOS Lord’s Taverners Kit Aid Ltd of Great Britain, and Vasile Revencu, President of the Rugby Federation of the Republic of Moldova.

According to LTC Mihail Buclis, the parties discussed some logistics aspects and training issues of the new-formed team of the academy. The first equipment was donated by the above British company. “We hope that this sports genre will be practiced in all the military units. Thus, the National Army will record great performances at the international competitions”, Col. Buclis stated.

In his turn, John Broadfoot appreciated the existence of a rugby team in a Moldovan military institution, hoping that this kind of sports will become as popular in the Republic of Moldova as in Great Britain.

The International Rugby Tournament as of spring 2013 will bring together sportsmen from Romania, Great Britain, Georgia, Ukraine, France and the Republic of Moldova.
