Ministry of Defense Proposes a New Concept of Military Career Organization

Chisinau, September 27, 2012 — The Ministry of Defense proposes a new concept of organization of the career of soldiers, noncommissioned officers and officers of the National Army. The decision was taken during the meeting of the Ministry’s of Defense Military Council.

According to Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta, the new military career concept is an important part of the National Army modernization and reorganization process and aims at adjusting it to the international standards. “The problems discussed today are conceptual for the future of the National Army, for this is a new approach to the military career which established modern criteria of gradual professional development of each serviceman, from soldier to general”, Vitalie Marinuta said.

According to the new concept, presented by the Chief of Personnel Directorate of Main Staff, Col. Eduard Ohladciuc, the personnel recruitment will be conducted by the military territorial centers and the structure in charge from the military units through two ways: direct — designed for graduates of military education institutions, and indirect — meant for graduates of civil institutions of education, that completed military department courses or did the military service in the National Army.

The new concept will also change the rank award procedure. Thus, there will be three military ranks — soldier, soldier 1st class and soldier 2nd class — for soldiers, and six military ranks for noncommissioned officers — corporal, E3, E4, Sergeant 1st class, sergeant 2nd class and E5.

The document developed by the Ministry of Defense also provides the extension of the rank advance period according to other armies’ rules, based on an efficient rank increase and advance system.
