Combined Endeavor 2012 – International Experience for Moldovan Signal Officers



CHISINAU, September 27, 2012 — The multinational communications exercises are for the National Army servicemen the main source of theoretical study and practical experience in term of communications and computer systems used at the international level, LTC Oleg Guzun, head of the Moldovan contingent, participating in Combined Endeavor 2012 multinational exercise, held in September at Aachen training ground, Grafenwoehr, Germany, stated.

LTC Guzun said this year, the Moldovan communications officers carried out 19 equipment interoperability tests by using different modern technologies and standards and took care of the informational security of their own network, being quite successful and showing the required compatibility.

The leader of the contingent specified the National Army signal officers transmitted the data through radio station waves within the operation network, maintaining the audio connection and data transmission between the Communications and Information Center of the Main Staff and the main station on Aachen ground from Germany. “By involving in different missions of the exercise, our communications professionals had the possibilities to study new technology and and technical equipment, exchange experience and ideas in their employment based on the modern methods of the other participant armies, that are to be used further on in the National Army”, Guzun said.

This year, the program of the exercise consisted of communications and computer equipment interoperability, training courses in information security, elements of frequency management, as well as radio connection.

The event also included the Distinguished Visitors’ Day, where the National Army was represented by the Chief of National Army Main Staff, Commander of the National Army, Brigadier Gen. Vitalie Stoian, and the Chief of Communication and Information Systems Directorate of the National Army Main Staff, Col. Igor Zavalski. The Moldovan officials got acquainted with the modern communications equipment used during the missions and the achievements of our servicemen at the exercise.

“Combined Endeavor 2012” brought together communications professionals from over 40 countries. Republic of Moldova deployed 15 communication experts of the Communication and Information Systems Directorate, the Communication and Computer System Center, as well as military units of the National Army.

“Combined Endeavor 2012” exercise aimed at reaching an appropriate level of operative, technical, software and information security compatibility through different automatic command and control information systems in humanitarian, peacekeeping and relief operations.

The National Army joined Combined Endeavor exercise in 1998 as an observer. In 1991, Moldovan servicemen actively engaged in the exercise.
