“Stefan cel Mare” Brigade Marks 20th Anniversary



Chisinau, October 20, 2012 — “The time that has passed since the foundation of the National Army and Stefan cel Mare Brigade was not easy at all, but we should focus on future. The goal of the Republic of Moldova Government is to have a well-prepared National Army formed of well-trained officers and soldiers having all the necessary conditions to do their duty of homeland defender”, prime-minister Vlad Filat stated during the 20th anniversary ceremony of Stefan cel Mare Brigade from Chisinau.

Vlad Filat congratulated the military staff and conscripts on the anniversary and thanked those who contributed to the creation of the brigade in 1992. “I am grateful to soldiers serving in this unit”, the Prime-minister of the Republic of Moldova said.

During the event, the Prime Minister offered Government diplomas and inaugurated a closed shooting range, where servicemen will have the possibility to train themselves.

The first President of the country, Mircea Snegur, said that Stefan cel Mare Brigade was create during hard times for Republic of Moldova both at the internal and external levels. “It was hard, but the work done in that period of time gives results today. We have a well-equipped army with well-trained soldiers”, Mircea Snegur said.

The event brought together the leadership of the National Army, servicemen of Stefan cel Mare Brigade, defense attaches to Republic of Moldova, pupils and students from Chisinau, as well as conscripts’ parents. The guests familiarized with the infrastructure, training areas, military technical equipment, weapons and patrimony of the brigade.

Stefan cel Mare Brigade was created October 16, 1992.
