Attractiveness of Contract-based Military Service Discussed by the Civil Society

Chisinau, November 1, 2012 — The national experts and the representatives of the civil society discussed some aspects of increasing attractiveness of contract-based military service within a round table held at the Ministry of Defense.

According to Deputy Minister of Defense Igor Panfile, the group of experts in charge of the development of Public Policy Proposal (PPP) on “Increasing attractiveness of contract-based military service” intended to make a pertinent and complex expertise of solutions to increasing attractiveness of military service for National Army soldiers and sergeants “We wanted to make the military career by appreciated by the people, so that the number of sergeants and soldiers working in operational units of the National Army be increased up to 75%”, Igor Panfile said.

The Chief of Policy Review, Monitoring and Evaluation, Defense Policy and Planning Directorate, Cpt. Diana Molodilo, said the Ministry of Defense wanted to bring the civil society closer to the activity of the defense institution. “We intended to think altogether about some means to increase the attractiveness of military career and find some ways or solutions to make our service members be proud of serving Republic of Moldova and belonging to this kind of organization”, Cpt. Molodilo said.

The quoted source pointed out that a few options have been identified to reach the goals and settle the problem of increasing the attractiveness of the contract-based military service. “One of these options would be the settlement of the problem of lack of living space for soldiers and sergeants. Experts also propose to enhance participation of National Army contingents in international peacekeeping missions”, Cpt. Molodilo.

The PPP project, developed by the group of experts, is put to public consultations. Recommendations and suggestions on the above document may be sent by November 11, 2012, to the mail address of the Defense Policy and Planning Department, fax: 234-535 or phone number: 252-487, via email [email protected] or to the mail address84 Hincesti Highway, Chisinau, MD-2021, Ministry of Defense (Defense Policy and Planning Department).
