International assistance for National Army projects



Chisinau, November 26th, 2012 — the Deputy Chief of Main Staff for providing resources, colonel Andrei Sarban, had a meeting with the representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) at the Ministry of Defence.

During the meeting, the officials reviewed the current state of humanitarian projects in management and munitions destruction, demining activities of the national territory and actions to ensure the ammunition security in National Army warehouses.

The ICRC counsellors, Michel Masson, Herb Elmazi and Colin King, welcomed the initiative of launching and carrying out of the projects by the Ministry of Defence in risk reduction caused by obsolete ammunition in the warehouses of the National Army. In this respect, the ICRC representatives will visit Moldova at the beginning of next year and define the assistance needs in this area.

Furthermore, during the meeting, the parties arranged to sign a cooperation agreement on project implementation to reduce the stock of dangerous time expired ammunition storage in the near future.

Colonel Şarban thanked the experts of the International Committee of the Red Cross for their willingness to support the projects initiated by the military institution. “The purpose of these projects is the safety of Moldovan citizens and achievement of efficient management of ammunition stored in the National Army warehouses,” mentioned the Deputy Chief of Main Staff for providing resources.
