National Army Servicemembers – World Jiu-Jitsu Champions



CHISINAU, April 29, 2013 — Nicolae Galbura, student of Alexandru cel Bun Armed Forces Military Academy, won gold medal at 70 kg category contest, Submishion-Kempo version, in the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship held within April 22-28, in Antalya, Turkey.

The Moldovan Jiu-Jitsu team had four students and an officer of Alexandru cel Bun Armed Forces Military Academy. All of them won medals.

Retired Lt. Col. Igor Gilca, professor at the Physical Training and Sports Department of the Military Academy, has become world champion at masters category, Full-Kempo version. Gilca also won the silver medal at Knochidown-Kempo version and the bronze medal at Semi-Kempo and Submishion-Kempo versions.

Student Andrei Manic got the silver medal at Full-Kempo version and bronze medal at Knochidown-Kempo, Semi-Kempo and Submishion-Kempo versions. He competed at 90 kg category contest.

Two other students of the military institution, Pavel Sulga and Serghei Bejan won the bronze medals at 60 kg and 70 kg contests.

This year, the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship brought together over 600 sportsmen from 36 countries. Republic of Moldova was represented by 27 Jiu-Jitsu fighters. The Moldovan team won 15 gold, 12 silver and 23 bronze medals.
