Topographic Center Marks 21st Anniversary



CHISINAU, May 31, 2013 — National Army Topographic Center marked its 21st anniversary within a ceremony held at the military unit HQ.

Col. Mihail Semionov, interim Commander of Land Force Command, stated that military topography is a significant element of the National Army. “Although this is one of the smallest military units according to the number of personnel, the Topographic Center proved that it’s not the quantity that matters, but quality is the basic principle of the civilian and military staff of the unit. Their efforts are clearly seen in the large number of projects carried out both inside the country, and outside it, participation in military exercises, as well as UN peacekeeping missions”, Col. Semionov said.

Col. Semionov appreciated the topogeodesic works and maps developed by the unit personnel, that are very important for the development of the National Army, focusing mainly on MGCP international program, establishment of national networks in WGS84 coordinate system, inventory of National Army land, topographic raise of Marculesti airport to be included in WGS84 coordinate system. The interim Commander of Land Force Command also applied for the continuation of training of Military Topographic Center staff in compliance with international requirements, implementation of professional training system designed for officers and NCOs of the unit.

Military Topographic Center was founded on May 28, 1992. The mission of the unit is to supply the National Army Main Staff and military units with maps and geospatial data, carry out field topographic measurements and insure topo-geodesic support of troops.
