Military Sportsmen at World Universiade from Kazan


Chisinau, July 3, 2013 — 12 military sportsmen of the Central Sports Club of the Army(CSCA) participate for the first time, within July 6-17, as part of the Moldovan team, at the World Universiade, held in Kazan, Russian Federation.

According to the Head of CSCA, Col. Andrei Catlabuga, the sportsmen will compete at three of the 13 categories of the event program. The European Champion in weightlifting, Oleg Sirghi, along with other three sportsmen, will compete at weightlifting category. The other eight sportsmen will compete at Kaiak-canoe and wrestling", Col.Catlabuga said.

The source specified that the Moldovan team will be represented in the competition by 60 sportsmen, ran by 2nd Lt. Oleg Sirghi, who was named as the standard-bearer of the team.

This year, Republic of Moldova will have a record number of participants at the Universiade from Kazan. The 27th edition of the competition will bring together 10 thousand sportsmen from 162 countries.
