1st Lieutenant Oleg Sirghi Wins Bronze Medal at World Universiade



Chisinau, July 7, 2013 — 1st Lieutenant Oleg Sirghi won the bronze medal at World Universiade in weightlifting, in the category of 56 kg. This is the first medal won by the team of the Republic of Moldova in Kazan, Russia, where the XXVII-a edition of the World Universiade is held within July 16-17.

In the snatch and throw category, 1st Lieutenant Oleg Sirghi recorded 246 kg. Thus, he won the third place, after the chinese Xu Jingui, 246 kg, and the Indian Bin Suwito Wijoyo, 250 kg.

After a modest performance in snatch category where Oleg Sirghi ranked the 9th place with a result of 103 kg, he managed to throw 143 kg in the second category. Thus, he won the second place in the second exercise. According to the total score, the National Army officer won the bronze medal.

The medal won by 1st Lieutenant Oleg Sirghi is the first for Republic of Moldova at the World Universiade from Kazan, where our country sent 60 sportsmen. The National Army delegated 12 sportsmen to the most important student competition on the earth.The National Army servicemembers will also compete at weightlifting, kayak-canoe and wrestling.

1st Lieutenant Oleg Sirghi was the standard bearer of our country at the World Universiade opening ceremony, which was held yesterday evening in Kazan, Tatarstan.

In April, 1st Lieutenant Oleg Sirghi won the gold medal at the European Weightlifting Championship , in the category of 56 kg, that took place in Albania.
