Defense Minister Inspects Guard Battalion

Chisinau, July 22, 2013 — Defense Minister, Vitalie Marinuta, paid an unexpected visit to Guard Battalion from Chisinau, as part of an action plan started by the defense institution leadership designed to inspect and review the situation in all National Army units. The inspection focuses mainly on military discipline and training conditions and accommodation of conscripts.

Vitalie Marinuta asked the unit servicemembers to pay maximum attention to conscripts. The minister specified that soldiers are the priority of the army and every violation of military regulations will be seriously punished.

“Young men enlist for the sake of training and you must provide them all the necessary conditions for that. I ask you to be an example for soldiers that, like you, fulfill their constitutional duty”, Vitalie Marinuta said.

The minister appointed a new commander of Guard Battalion — LTC Adrian Balan. This measure was taken after a few cases of violation of military discipline had been recorded in the unit. “High performance and excellent service is required from you. I count on your professionalism and competence”, Defense Minister mentioned.

The inspections made by the Minister of Defense and other decision-making factors of the National Army will continue in all the garrisons.

The Guard Battalion consists of five companies of servicemembers that perform different protocol activities, guard facilities of major importance, as well as play the role of security guards of the Ministry of Defense and Main Staff of the National Army.
