Moldovan-Greek Meeting at the Ministry of Defense

CHISINAU, July 31, 2013 — Defense Minister Vitalie Marinuta met today with the defense attaché of Greek Republic to Moldova, based in Bucharest, Commander Ioannis Kampolis. Vitalie Marinuta appreciated the development of cooperation between both states and congratulated the Greek official on his accreditation as defense attaché to Republic of Moldova.

The Minister thanked the Greek official for the support in training Moldovan servicemembers in Greek educational institutions. “Two graduates of Greek military schools are currently unit commanders. Another one runs a division of the Ministry of Defense. All 31 Moldovan servicemembers that studied in your country possess sound knowledge. Therefore, we will find opportunities to increase the number of Moldovan servicemembers selected for studies in Greek schools”, Vitalie Marinuta said.

The Greek official stated that the meeting shows the commitment of the Ministry of Defense leadership to bilateral cooperation goals and expressed his confidence that, throughout his mandate, the Moldovan Greek cooperation will enhance.

During his stay in Chisinau, Commander Ioannis Kampolis will visit the Special Forces Battalion, the 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion and the Continuous Training Center of Military Academy “Alexandru cel Bun”.

Commander Ioannis Kampolis was accredited as Greek defense attaché to Republic of Moldova, based in Bucharest, in November 2012. This is his first visit at the Ministry of Defense.

Moldovan-Greek defense cooperation is based on the Defense Cooperation Agreement, signed on September 16, 2003, in Athens.
