Commander of National Army and Head of Main Staff Position Transfer at the Ministry of Defense



CHISINAU, September 6, 2013 — Brigadier Gen. Vitalie Stoian, recently assigned to the position of Republic of Moldova’s defense attaché to Kingdom of Belgium and defense representative at NATO, passed on responsibilities to Col. Igor Gorgan, recently appointed as Head of Main Staff, Commander of National Army.

According to Minister of Defense, Vitalie Marinuta, throughout over 25 of military service, Brigadier Gen. Vitalie Stoian has worked in different positions showing high achievements and tenacity. “I would like to thank the commander of the army for professionalism and I hope that his performance will keep being appreciated based on enhancement of international cooperation of our country with other foreign partners, as well as different international organizations”, the Defense Minister said.

In his turn, Gen. Vitalie Stoian specified that the success of his activity throughout his service in the National Army is due to the high professional skills of all service members and their great achievements inside and outside the country. “The development of the National Army is a hard and long-term process. However, I assure you I will always be on duty”, Vitalie Stoian stated.

Brigadier Gen. Vitalie Stoian was the commander of the National Army during 2011-2013. Before that, he commanded two military contingents that participated in post-conflict rehabilitation operation in Iraq. He is the owner of a variety of national and international medals and orders, including “Credinta Patriei” (Loyalty to Motherland) Order.
