Ministry of Defense, Supported by OSCE, Updates Weapons Storehouses’ Security Systems



Chisinau, September 12, 2013 — A video monitoring security system has been put in commission today at the National Army Technical Equipment and Weapons Storehouse. The project was carried out by the Ministry of Defense, with the financial support of over 350 thousand Euros on behalf of OSCE Mission to Moldova.

During the event, Deputy Minister of Defense, Igor Panfile stated that the assistance provided by the OSCE Mission for the renovation and securization of military technical equipment and weapons storehouse as part of the National Army infrastructure modernization projects started by the Ministry of Defense is very useful. “The support for installing some new modern signal systems in the military storehouses is very important for raising the physical security level in ammunition storehouses, as well as for civilians’ security”, Igor Panfile said.

The representative of OSCE Mission to Republic of Moldova, Stephan Young, appreciated the results of the assistance project for the renovation and modernization of National Army storehouses. “We appreciate the appropriate use of money invested in these projects. We hope that by introducing new changes in the security and monitoring system, we will improve the control of military facilities and the guard of army weapons and technical equipment”, Stephan Young pointed out.

According to Col. Andrei Sarban, Deputy Chief of National Army Main Staff for Resource Management, beginning with 2011, the Logistics Command personnel repaired six storehouses from different regions of the country.

The quoted source also said that the security system put in mission today consists of video monitoring and record systems, means of authorized access control, as well as a phone stations that makes the connection with the guards. The costs of the project also included repair works of the guard corps for insuring security and special equipment store conditions.

The bilateral cooperation between two militaries is based on the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Defense and OSCE regarding the implementation of the Complex Program on Small Arms, Light Weapons and Conventional Weaponry in Republic of Moldova, signed on October 28, 2010.
