National Army Commander Meets with US Defense Attaché



CHISINAU, September 13, 2013 — Col. Igor Gorgan, Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, met today with LTC Brain Stephan, US defense attaché to Republic of Moldova.

The officials discussed about the bilateral defense cooperation and main achievements in term of defense and security modernization and reform.

Col. Igor Gorgan said the National Army’s cooperation relations with the US military has developed throughout years, which guarantees the quick achievement of the reform goal of the Moldovan defense sector. “Moldovan-American cooperation caused important positive changes in logistics, military education, military medical service, as well as National Army infrastructure”, Col. Gorgan stated.

The National Army Commander made an overview on the Republica of Moldova-US defense cooperation, focusing on the National Army soldiers’ in peacekeeping missions abroad, multinational exercises in Germany, Ukraine, Romania, Czech Republic, OCC certification, as well as the improvement of the curriculum of Military Academy of the Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun”.

The US defense attaché appreciated the Moldovan army’s progress in the military reform area. “We appreciate your country’s goals of promoting security in the world by engaging your military in international peacekeeping missions. I am confident that we will keep working together on the modernization of Moldovan military infrastructure, and mainly the military training ground of Bulboaca, where National Army servicememebers are trained in compliance with international standards to participate in world peacekeeping operations”, the American official said.

Moldovan-American defense cooperation is based on the Defense Cooperation Agreement signed by the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the US Department of Defense on December 4, 1995.
