Defense Ministers of Republic of Moldova and Romania Agree on the Need to Maintain High Level of Bilateral Cooperation (VIDEO)



Chisinau, September 21, 2013 — Defense Ministers of Republic of Moldova and Romania, Vitalie Marinuta and Mircea Dusa, agreed, during a meeting in Bucharest, on the need to maintain a high level of bilateral cooperation between the two militaries, as well as to implement some new projects in the above area.

Vitalie Marinuta expressed his confidence that the bilateral relations between the Moldovan and the Romanian armies will enhance and bring some benefits to both defense institutions.

Minister Mircea Dusa confirmed the availability of the Romanian defense institution to support our military in term of cooperation projects that are currently implemented or being started. Thus, the Romanian defense minister referred to nine scholarships provided for the practical training of young pilots of the National Army, as well as to the possibility to provide some additional scholarships in national institutions of higher military education for the Moldovan servicemembers.

Vitalie Marinuta and Mircea Dusa also exchanged opinions about the military bilateral cooperation agreements in the educational and classified information areas. The officials specified that the conclusion of these documents would open new perspectives of cooperation between the Romanian and Moldovan military.

In Bucharest, Minister Vitalie Marinuta met with the President’s advisor, Head of National Security Department, Presidential Administration, Iulian Fota, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Titus Corlatean. During the discussions, the officials pointed out the high level of bilateral cooperation, including political dialogue and sectorial area. The parties appreciated the current level of cooperation between the defense ministries.

The Romanian officials confirmed the entire support of Republic of Moldova’s European integration goal and the availability of the Romanian institution to help our country achieve its goals considered for the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius, that will be held in November 2013.

Minister Titus Corlatean assured that the establishment, at the Vilnius Summit, of new relations between Republic of Moldova and European Union is a major objective for Romania. “Chisinau may count on our full engagement in this area”, Minister Titus Corlatean specified.

While in Bucharest, Defense Minister, Vitalie Marinuta, visited the National Defense University “Carol I” and Military Technical Academy to discuss about the possibility to implement some joint educational projects, through Military Academy “Alexandru cel Bun”.

Minister of Defense of Republic of Moldova, Vitalie Marinuta, paid and official visit to Romania during September 19-20, at the invitation of his counterpart, Mircea Dusa.
