Moldo-American Experience in Management of Hazardous Materials

Chisinau, December 4, 2013- About 20 servicemembers of the National Army attend, within December 3-5, the workshop “HAZMAT Handling and Disposal Phase II” conducted by the 773^rd Civil Support Team of the US Armed Forces.

The event is held in partnering with the U.S. Office for Defense Cooperation and aims at training the military personnel in the management of hazardous materials, as well as exchanging experience on the operational methods with different types of dangerous chemicals applied by the Moldovan and American experts.

During the meetings, the participants discussed the activity of the NBC Company, in charge of nuclear, biological and chemical defense area, and challenges faced in crisis situations, the role of servicemembers in the implementation of NATO/Partnership for Peace Project on the disposal of pesticides and dangerous chemicals in Republic of Moldova, modern procedures of examination and processing of HAZMAT samples in specialized American laboratories, as well as other relevant issues.

The workshop brought together servicemembers of the National Army and representatives from the Emergency and Civil Protection Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The event is part of a range of activities carried out at the initiative of the Logistics Command, meant to improve the hazardous material management system in the National Army.
