Football Championship to Remember Heroes



Chisinau, February 24, 2014 — The Ministry of Defense, in partnering with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Union of Independence War Veterans, conducted Saturday, February 22, in Balti, an indoor football tournament to commemorate the 1992 Dniester war heroes.

War veterans attended the republican mini-football tournament “Heroes’ Cup”, dedicated to heroes that fought for Republic of Moldova’s integrity and independence.

The National Army team won the 2nd place out of 12 teams engaged in the competition.

The Army’s team competed with teams from Leova, Drochia, Ocnita, Singerei, Balti, Causeni Riscani, Floresti, Soroca, Chisinau and “Pro Fulger” team of the Special Forces Police Brigade “Fulger”.

The Balti event is the first one carried out by the Ministry of Defense to mark the 22nd anniversary since the Dniester War. The action is meant to commemorate heroes of war, that defended the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova. The event is also designed to educate new generations.

On Saturday, March 1, at the Center of Military History and Culture, Theater “Satiricus” will present the performance "Tara asta a uitat de noi" ( This country has forgotten us), based on the 1992 events, for war widows and veterans.
