EOD Engineers Dispose 160 Explosive Devices in March


Chisinau, April 1, 2014 — The National Army EOD team disposed 160 explosive devices this month, in Orhei, Stefan Voda, Ungheni, Ialoveni, Hincesti, Causeni and Telenesti districts.

According to Maj. Nicolae Teleghin, Commander of EOD Division of the National Army, during this period of time, the EOD team destroyed 74 bomb-launcher bombs of caliber 56 mm, 76 mm and 152 mm, 17 artillery projectiles, three F-1 hand grenades, 17 anti-tank and anti-personnel mines, 14 anti-tank grenades and 9 mine warheads.

The quoted source specified that the latest discovery of ammunition was recorded on Monday, March 31, in Lazo village, Stefan Voda district. 25 bomb-launcher bombs of caliber 56 mm were identified during the agricultural works in a local citizen’s courtyard. The German ammunition, dating back to Second World War, was neutralized by the EOD team of the Engineer Battalion “Codru” commanded by Maj. Gheorghe Racu.

This year, the National Army EOD engineers were called in 37 times and destroyed 165 explosive devices throughout the country.
