Minister of Defense Valeriu Troenco Assigned to Position

CHISINAU, April 5, 2014- President of Republic of Moldova, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Nicolae Timofti, introduced today Defense Minister Valeriu Troenco to the Army Command Corps.

At the solemn part of the event, the Guard of Honor’s salute and Presidential Orchestra’s performance.

President Nicolae Timofti stated that the new Head of the Ministry of Defense, Valeriu Troenco, is a patriot committed to nation, owner of the Order “Stefan cel Mare”, that demonstrated courage in the battles for defense of freedom and sovereignty of the country. “The qualities the Minister possesses and the large experience in various important positions will be the strengths of a true leader of the Ministry of Defense in hard times for the institution”, Nicolae Timofti said.

The Head of the State said that the new leadership of the Ministry of Defense would certainly reinforce the development of the National Army, ensuring the mobilization of the entire staff for the reform the military system.

Defense Minister, Valeriu Troenco, thanked the leadership of the country for trust and pointed out his desire to have the support of the command corps of the National Army, as well as of the authorities of the country to fulfill successfully the entrusted mission.

“I took a high responsibility as Minister of Defense, and I need your support to fulfill the missions a Minister must fulfill at the highest possible level and in due time, within an army under reform and modernization. I assure you that my actions will be directed towards the development of the National Army”, Valeriu Troenco stated.

Valeriu Troenco took the military oath today as Minister of Defense, in front of President Nicolae Timofti and Prime Minister Iurie Leanca.

Before being assigned as Minister of Defense, Valeriu Troenco was the Deputy Minister of Justice, Head of Public Order General Directorate and Director of Department of Penitentiary Institutions.
