Last Pesticides Are Evacuated from Donduseni District



Chisinau, May 17, 2014 — The National Army servicemembers evacuated, this week, the last pesticides from Donduseni district.

According to LTC Mariana Grama, Head of Ecology and Environment Protection Department of the Logistics Command, the 60 tons of obsolete pesticides, collected from 10 localities of Donduseni district and stored in Tirnova, will be burned in Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland.

The quoted source specified that the pesticides had been gathered and repacked in 2006, from Teleseuca, Pivniceni, Corbu, Elizavetovca, Mosana, Briceni, Sudarca, Arionesti, Tirnova and Taul by the specialized group of National Army servicemembers, in cooperation with the local public authorities from Donduseni.

Mariana Grama also pointed out that the specialized group of National Army servicemembers left for village Iargara, Leova, where they will start preparing the last pesticides from the region for evacuation.

The evacuation and disposal of pesticides are carried out within the NATO/PfP project on the disposal of dangerous pesticides and chemicals supported by NATO/ PfP Trust Fund and the contributing countries such as: Romania —the leadership country of the project, Turkey, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Norway, Italy, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Estonia, Luxemburg and Japan.
