US European Command Donates Equipment to National Army



 

Chisinau, June 16, 2014 — The US European Command donated today medical and EOD equipment and computers to the National Army, within a ceremony hosted by the Engineering Battalion “Codru” from Negresti.

The event was attended by Adjutant General, USA North Carolina National Guard, Maj. Gen. Gregory Lusk, Deputy Chief of US Mission in Republic of Moldova, Kara McDonald, Defense Minister, Valeriu Troenco, and Commander of the National Army, Col. Igor Gorgan.

Defense Minister, Valeriu Troenco, thanked the American officials for the provided assistance and specified that the donation is an important support for the National Army. “The Moldovan EOD engineers are 24/7 on duty. I am convinced that this equipment donation will help us to save many lives”, Valeriu Troenco said.

Deputy Chief of US Mission in Republic of Moldova, Kara McDonald, stated that the humanitarian assistance project, initiated by the US European Command, aims at developing the EOD and health care capabilities of the National Army. “The Humanitarian Mine Action program carried out by the European Command, since November 2013, offered the engineers a valuable training and modern equipment. Certainly, this will save many lives in your country and Moldova will become a more secure place”, the American official said.

The special technical equipment and supplies worth 210 thousand USD were donated as part of the “Humanitarian Mine Action” (HMA) Program. The donation is designed for National Army EOD and health care personnel. The equipment consists of mine detectors, testing equipment for detonators, EOD personal protection equipment, medical supplies, laptops, printers and others.
