Valeriu Troenco Attends South-Eastern Europe Defense Ministerial Meeting


Chisinau, October 15, 2014 — Defense Minister, Valeriu Troenco, attends the annual South-Eastern Europe Defense Ministerial Meeting (SEDM), held within October 15-17, in Budva, Montenegro.

The agenda of the meeting focused on defense cooperation and regional security issues, as well as the activities of the South-Eastern Europe Brigade Multinational Peace Force (SEEBRIG).

In Budva, the Minister of Defense will have bilateral meetings with his counterparts from other countries. The officials will discuss aspects of the bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual interest in the field of security and defense.

SEDM is a regional initiative, comprising such countries as: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Italy, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Slovenia, the United States of America, Turkey and Ukraine.

Established in 1996, SEDM has the mission to strengthen understanding and politico-military cooperation in the region, in order to enhance the stability and security in South-Eastern Europe. Every year, Defense Ministers and Chiefs of Staff gather to discuss military issues.

Moldova joined SEDM in 2003. Since then, our country has been attending Defense Ministers’ meetings as an observer.
