Guard and Engineer Battalion -22 Years on Duty

Chisinau, October 17, 2014 — The Guard Battalion and the Engineer Battalion “Codru” of the National Army marked their 22^nd anniversary, in Chisinau and Negresti.

Deputy Defense Minister Aurel Fondos and Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier General Igor Gorgan congratulated the military staff of both units on the anniversary. The officials appreciated each servicemember’s efforts in the development of the National Army and modernization of the defense sector of the Republic of Moldova. Deputy Defense Minister Aurel Fondos and Gen. Igor Gorgan also awarded the best servicemembers with National Army military distinctions for great achievements in service.

The anniversary ceremony in the Guard Battalion included weapon-handling and wrestling exercises, presented by the servicemembers of the Guard of Honor company and Special Forces Battalion “Fulger”. In Negresti, the EOD Engineers demonstrated EOD equipment and displayed an exhibition of ammunition.

The events were attended by the Ministry of Defense leadership, Main Staff, former unit commanders, veterans of the National Army, pupils and students from Chisinau, as well as conscripts’ parents.
