Heroes are Commemorated in Balti

CHISINAU, March 1, 2015 — A ceremony to remember the soldiers who fought for the independence and integrity of the Republic of Moldova in the Dniester War was held in Balti.

In the morning, “Moldova” Brigade servicemembers, policemen, war participants, and representatives of the local public administration laid flowers at Stefan cel Mare’s monument in Balti. Then, they walked in a remembrance march towards the Memorial for the heroes who died in war, situated on the unit’s territory.

During the commemorative meeting, Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan, mentioned the sacrifice of the soldiers from Balti while fighting for our country. “I am honored to participate in these commemorative actions for the heroes, because ‘Moldova’ Brigade was one of the first units to participate at fights in Cosnita, Cocieri, and Tighina”, stated Gen. Gorgan.

The participants to the meeting laid flowers and expressed their gratitude to Valeriu Nazarco and Valeriu Macarciuc, servicemembers in “Moldova” Brigade, who sacrificed their lives for the integrity of the Republic of Moldova.

Over 30 thousand people participated in the 1991-1992 Dniester War that killed over 300 military and civilians and injured 3500 people.
