Moldovan Service Members on Duty in Kosovo



CHISINAU, March 10, 2015 — National Army service members deployed in Kosovo continue to carry out missions, together with contingents from Italy, Slovenia, and Austria, at the multinational base “Camp Vilaggio Italia” from Pech village.

According to Commander of the Moldovan contingent, LTC Boris Macovei, daily, the infantry platoon carries out patrol missions on different itineraries established by the Multinational Battle Group — West senior staff. Our troops also ensure the base’s guard and security.

The source mentioned that the seven National Army EOD engineers conduct search operations on the patrol routes and the zone intended for the new runway within “Camp Vilaggio Italia” base. LTC Macovei specified that, within January-March, the EOD engineers destroyed various types of explosive of different caliber found in the area of responsibility, near Golesh mountain.

The second National Army contingent of 40 service members departed for Kosovo in September, 2014. The contingent consisted of 32 soldiers from the infantry unit, 7 EOD engineers and a staff officer.

The first contingent from the Republic of Moldova was deployed to KFOR Mission in Kosovo in March, 2014.
