Defense Legislation To Be Modified

CHISINAU, April 24, 2015 — The Ministry of Defense initiated the process of adjustment and finalization of the defense and policy legislation, necessary for continuing the reformation of the National Army activity and for improving its efficiency. Also, the new legislation is needed for the promotion of the contract-based military service, and for increasing social-care measures for servicemembers and their families.

According to Deputy Defense Minister, Alexandru Cimbriciuc, this activity is based on the Supreme Security Council Decision as of March 23, 2015, and 2015-2018 Government Activity Action Program.

Alexandru Cimbriciuc specified that for the achievement of this goal, the Minister of Defense issued an Order according to which two working groups will be established. The groups will consist of experts, specialists from the departments and divisions of the Ministry of Defense and National Army Main Staff, being supervised by Deputy Defense Minister, Ana Vasilachi.

Thus, the first working group will be in charge of the adjustment of the legislative acts which regulate the defense sector and the development of policy draft documents regarding the planning and the national defense sector, and will be led by State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Aurel Fondos.

The second working group, led by the Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan, will have the mission to adjust the legislation on the contract-based military service and the improvement of the military service conditions.

The Order of the Minister of Defense stipulates that the two chairpersons of the working groups will submit weekly reports to the Deputy Defense Minister, Alexandru Cimbriciuc. The reports will concern the progress of the legislation finalization process. Subsequently, within a month, these documents will be referred to the Parliament for approval.
