National Army joins Earth Hour action


CHISINAU, March 18, 2011 - The National Army will turn off the lights Saturday, March 26, to join world community for Earth Hour.

To raise the National Army personnel awareness about the need to protect the earth from global warming, Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta called servicemen to switch off their lights for an hour. Thus, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., lights will switch off in all the military units and institutions of the Ministry of Defense.

''Life on the earth, our existence and our future generations’ life is in our hands. We are aware of the fact we cannot save the earth by switching off the lights and saving power for one hour. However, this is a way to prove we can join together and find solutions to protect the environment we live in'', the Minister’s of Defense message shows.

A concert will be held in Dendrariu Park from Buiucani on the Earth Hour event. On Saturday, March 26, a drums and guitars will play accompanied by fireworks during 8:30-9:30 p.m. The event will be organized by the Ministry of Environment and SalvaEco, as well as Hai Moldova Movement.

Earth Hour world campaign was started by the World Wildlife Fund in 2007, in Sydney, Australia, meeting specific goals towards saving the environment. The organizers foresee 128 countries and over 5000 cities of the world to join the event this year.
