Anti-Air Missile Regiment Marks 23rd Anniversary

CHISINAU, May 16, 2015 — The Anti-Air Missile Regiment celebrated today the 23rd anniversary during an official ceremony. The event brought together the leaders of the Ministry of Defense and National Army Main Staff, veterans, and unit’s conscripts and servicemembers.

At the ceremony, Minister of Defense, Viorel Cibotaru, stated that the Anti-Air Missile Regiment essentially contributed to the National Army establishment, development, and modernization, being the unit that supervises and protects the air space of Republic of Moldova.

Viorel Cibotaru appreciated the performance of the Regiment’s servicemembers and veterans who are actively involved in the renovation process of military vehicles, as well as for their participation in internal and foreign missions for over 20 years.

Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan, mentioned that, during the “Northern Shield” exercise conducted in Balti, as well as during other exercises and shooting drills, the unit’s servicemembers showed good readiness and professionalism while carrying out the missions established by commanders.

The event included wrestling exercises, an exhibition of the Regiment’s vehicles, and a musical program.

The Anti-Air Missile Regiment “Dimitrie Cantemir” was established in May 1992.
