Military Aviators Celebrate Unit’s Day

CHISINAU, May 31, 2015 — The Air Base from Marculesti organized today an air show on the 23rd anniversary of the unit.

The ceremony included a demonstration of flights and acrobatics by An-2 and Sting aircrafts and Mi-2 helicopter, parachute jumps from aircrafts at 400, 1,000, and 2,000 m altitude performed by “Fulger” Special Operations Battalion, wrestling exercises and square bashing techniques presented by “Moldova” Brigade. There was also a presentation of MiG-29, An-2, IAK-18T, An-26, An-72, and Sting aircrafts, and other unit equipment.

Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan, declared during the ceremony that the performance of Moldovan aviators in their home country and abroad — in Afghanistan and South Sudan — shows the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of the officers and NCOs of the Air Base.

Commander of Air Forces, Col. Vadim Cemirtan, mentioned that this ceremony is an homage to those who know the art of flight — aviators, engineers, and technicians — who maintain and fly the National Army aircrafts.

On the anniversary day and as a sign of appreciation of service achievements, a group of unit’s servicemembers were awarded National Army diplomas and medals on behalf of the leadership of the Ministry of Defense.

“Decebal” Air Base was established on May 27, 1992, based on Soviet Union Air Regiment 86, through Republic of Moldova President’s decision.
