Moldovan-Romanian Meeting at NATO Headquarters



CHISINAU, June 24, 2015 — Minister of Defense, Viorel Cibotaru, met with his Romanian counterpart, Mircea Dusa, at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, on June 23. The meeting was part of the Moldovan Defense Minister’s visit to Brussels, where he discussed with the NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, about the “Defense Capacity Building for Republic of Moldova” assistance package. The DCB initiative is to be approved by the allied ministers today, June 24.

At the joint press-conference, the two officials highlighted the interest of NATO, as well as of Romania, towards the defense and security sector of Republic of Moldova.

Minister Cibotaru thanked Romania for the support offered in initiating the assistance package DCB-Moldova.

“Following the initiative of the NATO Secretary General, I am here, on the eve of the NATO Defense Ministers’ Meeting. During the meeting, the assistance package DCB-Moldova will be examined and hopefully, approved. Thus, I would like to thank again the NATO Secretary General, as well as Minister Mircea Dusa, and consequently Romania, for the substantial, active, and perceivable support offered to Republic of Moldova, in order to achieve this goal”, said Viorel Cibotaru during the press-conference.

Minister Dusa congratulated his Moldovan counterpart for the progress achieved by Republic of Moldova in the context of national defense capacity building.

Mircea Dusa added that the effective implementation of the DCB-Moldova package will allow the use of NATO experience and expertise in consolidation of the defense and security sector of Republic of Moldova.
