Expert from Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) – Working Visit to Republic of Moldova



CHISINAU, July 10, 2015 — Expert of the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF), Valeri Ratchev, paid a working visit to Republic of Moldova during July 6-10. The purpose of the visit is the development of a study regarding the assistance needs in the context of the Objective “Reformation and modernization of defense and security sector” within the Activity Program of the Government of Republic of Moldova for 2015-2018.

According to State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Aurel Fondos, the study will help DCAF in identifying cooperation trends that would facilitate the reformation and modernization process of Moldova’s defense and security sector.

The source specified that expert Valeri Ratchev’s agenda included meetings with representatives of NGOs IDC NATO, OSCE Mission to Moldova, Promo-Lex Association, Pro-Marshall Center, Centre for Analysis and Prevention of Corruption, Politicon, and the Institute for Public Policy. Also, the expert met with officials from the Committee for national security, defense and public order, Supreme Security Council, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, as well as Security and Intelligence Service.

The cooperation between Republic of Moldova and Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces started in 2002.
