North Carolina National Guard Commander Visits National Army



CHISINAU, July 15, 2015 — Commander of North Carolina National Guard (NCNG), Maj. Gen. Gregory Lusk, visits the National Army, within July 14-17.

Thus, on Wednesday, July 15, the US official met with Minister of Defense, Viorel Cibotaru. The meeting was attended by State Secretary of Ministry of Defense, Aurel Fondos, North Carolina National Guard State Command Sergeant Major John H. Swart, assistant of NCNG Commander, Capt. Darrell A.H. Scoggins, US military attaché to Republic of Moldova, LTC Joseph Bilbo, as well as representatives of US Office of military cooperation and Bilateral Affairs Office.

The discussions focused on the cooperation between the two armies and priorities of enhancement of the Moldovan-American defense partnership.

Viorel Cibotaru appreciated the support offered by the American Government in the logistics and technical area, thus contributing to National Army reformation and modernization.

The Minister of Defense also thanked the leadership of North Carolina National Guard for assistance in training and assessment of Moldovan peacekeepers’ readiness for international peacekeeping missions in compliance with Operational Capabilities Concept.

In his turn, NCNG Commander mentioned the dynamic character of the cooperation between the National Army and the institution he leads. Maj. Gen. Lusk pledged for the continuation of this dialogue through implementation of new projects useful for both parts.

Also today, NCNG Commander met with Chief of Main Staff,National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan. They discussed about the support offered by US Government in deploying the Moldovan contingent to KFOR mission to Kosovo, the Memorandum of Agreement on establishment of Partnership between military units of National Army and NCNG, signed in May 2013, Moldovan-American exercises organized in Moldova, as well as humanitarian projects carried out by the American institution in our country.

While in Republic of Moldova, Gen. Maj. Gregory Lusk will also visit “Moldova” Brigade from Balti, where the “Joint Effort 2015” exercise takes place and where servicemembers from the US 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team based in Italy, and from the North Carolina National Guard participate.

The cooperation between the NCNG and National Army of Republic of Moldova started in 1996, with Military-to-Military Program.
