National Army Celebrates 24th Anniversary



CHISINAU, September 2, 2015 — Today, during the festive meeting for the National Army 24th anniversary, Minister of Defense, Anatol Salaru, awarded Government diplomas, I, II, and III class, as well as National Army medals to a group of servicemembers and civilians.

The “Cross of Merit”, I, II, and III class, “Distinguished Service” Cross, I, II, and III class, the National Army Medal for cooperation, and the Medal for humanitarian and peacekeeping missions were awarded for faultless fulfillment of duty, for the contribution to help ensure a high level of training for the units, as well as for professionalism.

The Minister of Defense congratulated the officers, NCOs, and public servants on this event, mentioning their contribution to establishing a secure and functional institution. “Despite all the obstacles, you manage to bring honor to our country through concrete, worthy actions, respected by society. I would like to express my gratitude for the missions you carry out in Moldova and abroad, for the commitment and solicitude you show in everyday work”, said Anatol Salaru.

Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan stated that, during the last over two decades, the Moldovan servicemembers participated in many multinational exercises and peacekeeping missions. Thus, they promoted abroad a good image of Moldova. “This year, we were present in theaters of operations, as well as at international exercises in Romania, Ukraine, and Germany. Also, we managed to plan and organize in Moldova the multinational exercise ‘Joint Effort’ together with partners from the USA, Romania, Georgia, and Poland”, said Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan.

On Thursday, September 3, the Ministry of Defense will organize a series of events dedicated to the National Army 24th anniversary in all the garrisons.

At 9AM, the National Army Commanding Officer Corps will lay flowers at Stefan cel Mare monument in Marii Adunari Nationale Square. At 9.30AM, servicemembers and civilians from Chisinau garrison will lay flowers at Maica Indurerata monument at “Eternitate” Memorial.

At 3PM, the multinational artillery exercise “Fire Shield — 2015” will open at the crossroads of Balcani road, Stauceni and Calea Orheiului (kilometer 11). The exercise will be held at the National Army training base from Bulboaca.

Also, on the National Army Day, festive meetings will be organized in Balti, Cahul, Ungheni, and Marculesti garrisons.
