National Army Day: President Attends Official Events and Awards a Group of ServicemembersCHISINAU, September 3, 2015 — The President of the Republic of Moldova, Nicolae Timofti, attended today the National Army Day events. At the ceremony held at the Ministry of Defense, the President congratulated the servicemembers and thanked them for successfully fulfilling the mission of defending our country. “The reality forces us to change our view on our time’s challenges. We must take measures in order to transform the Armed Forces into a modern, well-organized, and well-equipped structure”, said President Timofti. The President mentioned the causes of a poor funding for the Armed Forces. “In past, it was believed that the development of the Armed Forces would go against the principles of peace and democracy of Republic of Moldova. Such ideas are false and counterproductive”, stated Nicolae Timofti. The President awarded a group of servicemembers for faultless fulfillment of their duty, contribution to renovation and modernization of military vehicles, and merits in organizing the combat training. Minister of Defense, Anatol Salaru, former Ministers Valeriu Troenco and Viorel Cibotaru, veterans, and Advisers to the President also attended the event.
