“Fire Shield 2015” Starts in Bulboaca (video)



CHISINAU, September 3, 2015 — The multinational exercise “Fire Shield — 2015” started today at the National Army training base from Bulboaca.

According to the exercise Commander, Col. Andrei Sevcenco, the National Army organizes this exercise for the first time and it will be carried out within September 3 — October 3. The main goal of “Fire Shield — 2015” is to improve the capabilities and to increase the level of interoperability of the participating contingents.

The source specified that the exercise consists of four stages. The first stage starts today with the movement and dislocation of forces to the National Army training base. The next stage will be the consolidation of Moldovan artillery units and will take place within September 7-20.

Col. Sevcenco said that the active stage of the exercise will be conducted during September 21 — October 2. In this period, the National Army artillery units and the US and Romanian contingents will be evaluated. The exercise will be finished on October 3, when the military forces will be redeployed to military units.

The “Fire Shield — 2015” brings together about 600 servicemembers from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Brigades, Anti-Air Missile Regiment, Artillery Unit, the 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion, Guard Battalion, the Military Academy of Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun”, as well as 150 American and 26 Romanian servicemembers.

Soldiers will use different types of weapons to carry out they missions. They are as follows: 2A-36 cannon, M-30 mortar, D-20 mortar, ZU-23-2 and AZP-57 anti-air artillery, as well as HMMWV, TAB-71, BTR-80, URAL, GAZ, and ZIL military vehicles.
