A Soviet Occupation Museum to Be EstablishedCHISINAU, September 16, 2015 — Today, Minister of Defense, Anatol Salaru, signed an order for the establishment of a Soviet Occupation Museum within the National Army Center of Military History and Culture. Thus, also today, the T-34 tank situated on the territory of “Stefan cel Mare” Brigade was demounted. The event was attended by Minister of Defense, Anatol Salaru, Deputy Defense Minister, Alexandru Cimbriciuc, Chief of National Army Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan, and the director of the Center of Military History and Culture, Vitalie Ciobanu. Anatol Salaru said that the establishment of a Soviet Occupation Museum is necessary for young people who should know the historical truth and the consequences of this period. The Minister stated that a citizen doing the military service within the National Army must not be educated through Soviet military symbols and with the mentality of a “defeated man” in front of the occupants. The swimming tank PT from the “Stefan cel Mare” Brigade will be also transferred to the museum. The permanent exhibition of the Soviet Occupation Museum will open on March 27, 2016.
