“Fire Shield” Exercise – Active Phase (video)



CHISINAU, September 21, 2015 — Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan, attended today the opening ceremony of the active phase of “Fire Shield — 2015” artillery exercise, held at the National Army military training base.

At Bulboaca training center, Brigadier Gen. Gorgan mentioned how much the colleagues from the Romanian army contributed to successfully conduct the trainings. Brigadier Gen. Gorgan stated that this will ensure an improved interoperability, experience exchange, as well as better operational capabilities of the units.

According to the exercise Commander, Col. Andrei Sevcenco, today starts the third stage of the exercise. During this phase, the Moldovan and Romanian soldiers will shoot different types of weapons: 2A-36 cannon, M-30 mortar, D-20 mortar, MT-12 antitank gun, ZU-23-2 and AZP-57 anti-air systems.

The source mentioned that the “Fire Shield — 2015” brings together about 600 servicemembers from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Brigades, Anti-Air Missile Regiment, Artillery Unit, the 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion, Guard Battalion, the Military Academy of Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun”, as well as 26 Romanian soldiers from the 15th Brigade from Iasi.

The exercise will be conducted within September 3 — October 3, 2015.
