Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru Meets with Ambassador of Turkey Mehmet Selim Karta and the New Military Attaché Can Sabitay



CHISINAU, September 29, 2015 — Bilateral military cooperation, political-military situation of Republic of Moldova, and regional security were the main subjects discussed at the meeting of Minister of Defense, Anatol Salaru, with Ambassador of Turkey to Republic of Moldova, Mehmet Selim Kartal, confirming once more the friendship and cooperation between the two states.

The new military attaché of Turkey to Republic of Moldova, Col. Can Sabitay, and Chief of National Army Main Staff, Igor Gorgan, also attended the meeting.

The Minister of Defense congratulated Col. Sabitay on his appointment as defense attaché of Republic of Turkey to Moldova.

Anatol Salaru mentioned that Turkey has a military tradition that could teach us a lot. Thus, the two officials agreed to continue cooperation in the educational area. Therefore, Turkey will keep providing scholarships to Moldovan students in its military educational institutions. Also, the Minister confirmed Moldova’s availability to participate in multinational missions and joint military exercises.

The Minister of Defense pointed out that one of National Army’s key objectives is to develop interoperability with the armies of NATO member states.

Ambassador of Turkey to Republic of Moldova, His Excellency Mehmet Selim Kartal, underlined that Turkey will support the National Army reformation process and will offer assistance in medicine, logistics, and other fields.

During the meeting, the officials also discussed about the regional security problem, the situation in Ukraine, and Turkey’s role in Syria war.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to maintain and enforce military bilateral cooperation.
