“Stefan cel Mare” Brigade Celebrates 23rd Anniversary

CHISINAU, October 17, 2015 — “Servicemembers of the 2nd Brigade, I am here today to assure you of all the appreciation of leaders of the Ministry of Defense and of the Republic of Moldova for the excellent service you have been carrying out. This year, you participated with maturity and professionalism in the exercises ‘Fire Shield’, ‘Joint Effort’, and ‘Northern Shield’, thus proving that the National Army is capable to fulfill its duty.” The statement was made by Minister of Defense, Anatol Salaru, during the 23rd anniversary ceremony of “Stefan cel Mare” Brigade. The event brought together military attaches to the Republic of Moldova, former unit’s Commanders, military priests, pupils, and students from Chisinau, and parents of the conscripts and servicemembers.

During the event, the Minister of Defense decorated the unit’s soldiers with National Army medals and awarded diplomas, as a sign of appreciation for an honest and excellent military service. Also, a group of officers and NCOs were promoted to higher ranks.

Brigade’s Commander, Col. Mihail Olaru, mentioned the establishment of better conditions in the unit in order to improve the life quality of the staff and the soldiers’ training. “The barracks, canteen, gym, and bath were renovated. Also, a great part of the military vehicles was reconditioned and then tested during inspections and exercises. Currently, a modern mini-football field is being constructed”, said Col. Olaru.

The Brigade’s Commanding staff organized a series of activities dedicated to the anniversary: troops’ march, presentation of military vehicles, wrestling and weapon handling exercises, as well as an exhibition of weapons, vehicles, and equipment.

“Stefan cel Mare” Brigade was established on October 16, 1992.
