NATO Experts at the Ministry of Defense

CHISINAU, November 11, 2015 — A group of NATO experts pays a working visit to the Ministry of Defense within November 10-13, in the context of the implementation of the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI) in the Republic of Moldova.

According to State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Aurel Fondos, the experts, together with Ministry of Defense representatives, will conduct some working sessions in order to analyze the progresses registered in the adjustment of the legislative strategic framework and of the National Security Strategy. The discussions will be also centered on the review of the military risks and threats for the security of the Republic of Moldova, the National Defense Strategy format, as well as the strategic communication area.

Andrew Cullen, leader of the NATO experts group, stated that the level of commitment that NATO holds for this initiative is reflected by the number of experts. “We have some very high level of experts from the USA, the United Kingdom, Germany, Turkey, Romania, as well as partner states such as Sweden, Georgia, and Switzerland. Our job here is essential, is it to advise and assist, to help your authorities as your authorities to take forward the transformation and reform of your armed forces. We see that as an important task”, said Andrew Cullen.

The Republic of Moldova was invited by the North Atlantic Alliance to join the DCB initiative during the NATO Summit in Wales, held within September 4-5, 2014. The initiative aims to offer assistance in analyzing the current defense capabilities of the Republic of Moldova and in identifying the sectors that need development. In June, 2015, in Brussels, Defense Ministers of NATO member states approved the assistance package “Defense Capacity Building Initiative for the Republic of Moldova”.
