National Army Service Members Remember the Soldiers who Died in the Afghan War



CHISINAU, February 15, 2016 — The National Army service members paid a tribute to the soldiers who died in Afghanistan by participating in a series of events held in all the military garrisons.

Thus, in Chisinau, Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru, Commanding Officer Corps, together with officials, war veterans and their families laid flowers at “Feciorilor Patriei — sfinta amintire” Memorial from Riscani district of the capital city. Also, the participants kept a moment of silence to remember the fallen soldiers.

In February, the National Army staff will conduct events dedicated to the soldiers who died in the Afghan War in Balti, Cahul, and Ungheni garrisons, as well as in Floresti, Glodeni, Hancesti, Rascani, Straseni, and Sangerei districts.

About 12, 500 Moldovan citizens participated in the 1979 — 1989 Afghan War. 301 of them were killed, four were declared missing and 257 were injured.
