A New Moldovan-Lithuanian Cooperation Plan Signed at the Ministry of Defense



CHISINAU, March 23, 2016 — The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Lithuania signed today the Bilateral Cooperation Plan for 2016, during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Defense.

The document was signed by Col. Alexandru Harea, Chief of Defense Policy and Planning Directorate, and Robertas Sapronas, Director of International Relations and Operations Department of the Ministry of National Defense of Lithuania, as part of the bilateral consultations between the two nations, held within March 22-24, in the Republic of Moldova.

The Plan comprises joint actions in sectors of major importance for both military institutions, such as: training, financing, and logistics.

While in Chisinau, the Lithuanian delegation met with State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense. The officials discussed about the priorities of the bilateral agenda, regional and international security and its impact on Moldova’s security, the progress of the Defense Capacity Building Initiative in our country, as well as the tools and mechanisms to engage Lithuania in this process.

The Moldovan-Lithuanian defense cooperation started in November, 2000.
